Deutsche Oper am Rhein

Two cities, two disciplines: the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg have both been performing at Duisburg Theatre and the Opernhaus Düsseldorf since 1956.

High-calibre opera and ballet

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg gGmbH is a theatre group run by the cities of Düsseldorf and Duisburg. It is able to look back on a long tradition of collaboration between both cities. Ever since it was founded in 1956, it has been among the most important opera houses in Germany and has evolved into one of Europe’s top producers of musical theatre and dance. At both venues – the Opernhaus Düsseldorf and Duisburg Theatre, which between them have capacity for around 2,400 spectators – more than 260 productions can be staged each year.

Experienced and internationally renowned singers are among the world’s biggest soloist ensemble alongside numerous young artists who embark on their careers in Düsseldorf and Duisburg.

Great opera classics – works by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Strauss – are as much part of the repertoire of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as rarities from baroque opera, important modern pieces and commissioned works by composers of our time.

The Ballett am Rhein is one of Europe’s leading companies. The ensemble that performs on the stages of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg is made up of 45 dancers, all of whom are soloists.

The management team consists of general manager Prof. Christoph Meyer, general musical director Axel Kober, chief choreographer Martin Schläpfer, ballet director Remus Şucheană and managing director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Alexandra Stampler-Brown.
