Even the Olympic Games in ancient Greece were more than sporting competitions. They were an encounter of travelling theatre groups and poets; at the same time a celebration. The World Games are bound to this tradition; therefore they comprise a cultural and supporting programme.
The central point of the programme will be the World Games plaza, located at "Marathon- und Klönnewiese" on the backside of the MSV-Arena. From July 14th through July 24th this will be the heart of The World Games 2005. International guests from sport and media - jointly with spectators from Duisburg and all over the world -will experience a thrilling mixture of classical music and pop, fascinating performances and a family-orientated programme. The diversity of The World Games 2005 visitors will be reflected in the catering at the World Games plaza.

The opening ceremony on July 14th and the closing ceremony on July 24th in the MSV-Arena - both joined by numerous renowned guests - will frame the cultural and sporting programme of The World Games 2005. There will be an additional supporting programme at the sports venues as well.
