#TOWER 01: Myriam Resch and Marc von Criegern
The TOWER in the Garden of Memories (Special opening hours)
Düsseldorf artists Myriam Resch and Marc von Criegern open the exhibition series "TOWER in the Garden of Memories" with current figurative images and architectural drawings.
Painted architecture - there is barely an issue with which the Düsseldorf artists Myriam Resch and Marc von Criegern are more concerned with. The preoccupation with facades and interieurs, with building and living, with functions and illusions traverses their work like a red thread. Now: Which exhibition venue would be better suited for the works of these artists than the TOWER, this slightly forgotten, ruinous piece of architecture in the Garden of Memories, which Dani Karavan laid out in the Duisburg Inner Harbour in 1999? With current figurative images and architectural drawings Resch and von Criegern open the exhibition season in the TOWER, which, in the future, will be artistically revived by the LehmbruckMuseum.
Myriam Resch conceives of her works as "pictorial representations of urban spaces", which can be designated, according to the artist, as "cityscapes" in the widest sense. Resch tries to split up urban space into "visual building blocks" and to emphasize the artificial, the alien and the constructed character of situations. And: In the TOWER she makes reference to the site itself, she paints in situ and utilizes wall areas as a canvas. Myriam Resch, born in Karlsruhe in 1973, studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1992 until 2000 under Irmin Kamp and Jan Dibbets and was master student with the latter as of 1998. In 2004 she founded the exhibition project "ortstermin". She lives and works in Düsseldorf.
Marc von Criegern's images, on the other hand, are often dedicated to man in his architectural surroundings. In a manner that is almost callous, but which could also be simply serene or bored, he places people in smooth, perfect, seemingly dreamlike interieurs and thus not questions the art of construction, but also the meaning of all human action. Marc von Criegern was born in Stuttgart in 1969 and studied at the Kunsthochschule Braunschweig from 1990 until 1994 and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Since 2005 he is a member in the Association of German Artists. Von Criegern lives and works in Düsseldorf, too.
You can find the TOWER in the Garden of Memories in the Duisburg Inner Harbour located inbetween Philosophenweg and Springwall.
Opening hours: Sat + Sun 3 to 6 p.m. and by arrangement: +49 (0)152 29 34 150. Admission is free.
