#TOWER 02: Hiltrud Lewe

The TOWER in the Garden of Memories (Special opening hours)

"Memories are like pieces of laundry", says the Krefeld-based artist Hiltrud Lewe. "Many a time they have to be twisted, turned, relocated, shaken, cleaned and rearranged."

For this purpose there are special places like chests, cellars or attics. Sometimes gaps or fissures come up - or a veil covers them. Memories arise without our conscious actions. They live through the past and have no future.

The TOWER, as a memory storage in its own right, reveals itself, in Hiltrud Lewe's overall concept, as a veritable treasure box and becomes a pillar of manifold commemorative possibilities. In Dani Karavan's "Garden of Memories" it turns its injuries outward; in turn, this internalized processes are rendered visible and reemerge as "recollected spaces".

You can find the TOWER in the Garden of Memories in the Duisburg Inner Harbour located inbetween Philosophenweg and Springwall.

Opening hours: Sat + Sun 3 to 6 p.m. and by arrangement: +49 (0)157 77 78 45 23. Admission is free.
