Duisburg2027 Project Phases

The project consists of three interrelated planning phases. The first two phases use informal planning and participation instruments in order to lead over to the third phase, the legally mandatory formal procedures to the realignment of the land use plan.

Phase 1: city wide housing (quality of life) and working (structural policy) strategy

Phase 2: regional strategy for Duisburg-Nord, -Centre/South and -West

Phase 3: realignment of the land use plan based on the results of the two previous informal phases

In the first phase until the end of 2010, the involved departments of the city of Duisburg prepared detailed concepts, they anticipated challenges and future needs of their field of action and developed strategies for. The project team Duisburg2027 linked these strategies and merged them cross-sectionally and future orientated in a citywide strategy for housing and working.

The second phase analyses and evaluates the potential for development the urban subspaces of Duisburg-North, -Centre/South and -West offer, which are separated by Rhine and Ruhr. The results will be presented in the regional strategy concepts by the end of 2011.

The third phase is the legally mandatory formal process for realigning the land use plan according to the German federal building code. It is scheduled to complete the realignment by the end of 2012.
