Duisburg´s two most ambitious venues are the Opera House and the Theater am Marientor. The productions of the German opera on the Rhine, a joint venture between the cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf, dates back to 1956.
The Opera House also presents shows from other well-known hteatres in the area, concerts by the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra and a range of master concerts.
