Local economic development and employment

Aims

Marxloher Geschäftsleben, Weseler Straße und Wochenmarkt in Beeck

The aim of local economic development strategies consists in creating additional income and employment possibilities - and thus social integration opportunities - in particular for population groups at a disadvantage in the labour market. Employment and development potential based on concepts of local economic development can be identified in the formal (market-orientated) economy as well as in the informal (community-orientated) economy.

What is involved is being very much more neighbourhood-orientated than the usual business promotion policy can achieve, defining the neighbourhood concerned as a local field of action in which safeguarding of employment by means of improvement of the existing situation is carried out.

Moreover, the instruments of local economic development strategies and also of a preventive labour market policy include:

·         Promotion of cooperation relations among local businessmen and tradesmen

·         Concepts for foresighted locally required qualification

·         Promotion of qualification and training opportunities adapted to the local situation

·         Development of neighbourhood marketing instruments

·         Support for threatened companies in individual cases and, last but not least,

·         Development of land for commercial use to meet local requirements. Information on individual projects can be found under 'Projects' and under the respective neighbourhoods.

Offers

·         Support for businessmen/tradesmen to improve their economic situation

·         Advice for projects for the setting-up of new business enterprises, auditing of concepts, indicating possible ways of obtaining financing

·         Mobilisation of land for commercial use and premises for interested users

·         Development of ideas for new employment possibilities within the neighbourhood

·         Organisation of cooperation/exchange between (German and foreign) businessmen/
tradesmen

·         Procurement of data, arranging of contacts, passing-on of know-how
